This design primarily takes inspiration from the architecture and landscapes in Ames, Iowa. Starting with the letter A, the form creates the landmark Iowa State University Campanile in its negative space, with the black dot representing the clock found on the tower. The A represents Iowa State. The orange M represents the greater Ames community, including the local school district with colors orange and black, and the form represents steep roofs of several well known buildings in the community. The E is colored red to represent barns and residences in the area, also tying into the university's school colors of cardinal and gold. Finally, the blue S represents the many meandering creeks and the river that flow through the community, creating many greenbelts and valleys for hiking and wilderness habitat. Overall this design characterizes the greatest assets in Ames.
