The Puna district is highly geologically active, with regular earthquakes and frequent eruptions at Kilauea, located within Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. In addition to its lush rainforests and active vulcanism, Puna is also known for its beautiful black sand beaches. The green script of this design represents the ʻōhiʻa and other culturally significant plants of the district that define the landscapes.
